To my readers, I hope you have had a wonderful, restful summer and that you are falling back into your rhythms nicely. As I write this on the patio of a Starbucks by my daughters school, there is a crispness in the morning air that excites me. What also excites me is the progress we have made over the past month for our event Art for Advocacy, benefitting the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC). My husband and I are this year’s underwriting chairs, and have been hard at work getting support from our friends, family, and colleagues to attend and donate to this amazing cause.
The Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center serves over 5,000 of the worst cases of child sexual and physical abuse in Dallas county per year. Their average client is a nine year old girl who has been abused by someone she knows and trusts. To imagine a child, such as our daughter, having her childhood scarred in this way is something that hurts me to my core.
At 56,000 square feet, DCAC is truly an incredibly warm, child-friendly environment with a tremendous team of counselors, DPD police officers, and CPS workers. We have been taking people on group bus tours so they can see how moving the work done at this center is for themselves. Art therapy is one of the many programs utilized for the children at the center, which is why their main fundraising event is focused on celebrating the transformative and healing power of art.
We are thrilled to have City Electric Supply (CES) as our returning presenting sponsor this year as well as Forty Five Ten as our kickoff party sponsor on September 14th. General Datatech Warehouse (Stephanie and John Roberts) have also graciously agreed to donate their venue for the event. Their space served as the perfect backdrop last year for over 100 pieces of art to be displayed for the live and silent auction among 700 attendees. We are also excited to have Paper City as our media sponsor.
If you would like to join us this year, the deadline to be recognized on the invitation is TODAY. You can still purchase sponsorships (starting at $1K for two seats at the seated dinner) at www.dcac.org/art. The deadline for recognition in the program is October 4th.
