Baby Safe Mosquito Repellents

mosquito1mosquito2

We’re definitely in the midst of summer! Even though it’s hot out, my family and I still enjoy being outdoors in the mornings and in the evenings. Unfortunately, these are prime time hours for mosquitos to attack. With the rising threat of zika, it’s important that we protect ourselves. In lieu of using harsh chemicals such as DEET to ward off mosquitos, here are some all natural remedies and products:

California Baby Natural Bug Repellent: This gentle baby bug spray is infused with pure essential oils of citronella, lemongrass, and cedar. I keep this spray in my diaper bag and whenever we go out to eat, I spray all of our feet, ankles, and legs (especially London’s under the highchair) so we don’t get attacked by those sneaky mosquitos hiding under the table. The smell is pleasant and non-invasive to other patrons.

Acure Baby Bug: This organic, all natural product is full of essential oils. I prefer to use a stick when applying bug repellent (and sunscreen) to London’s upper body so the spray doesn’t accidentally blow into her eyes. She thinks it’s fun when I draw on her hands and cheeks. Acure is a fantastic, family owned and operated company founded on sustainable principles to provide the highest quality of organic personal care. Their bug and sunscreen sticks are small for easy, on-the-go application.

Honest Bug Spray: I started using this product last summer when I was pregnant and in need of a nontoxic repellent. It’s infused with organic citronella, cedar, rosemary, and peppermint essential oils. A bottle of this lives on our patio table.

Cutter Natural Outdoor Fogger: This fogger spray, concentrated with lemongrass oil, is the most effective product I’ve found for keeping our outdoor space free of mosquitos. I like to spray it along the perimeter of our magnolias to deter pests from coming into our yard. After spraying, I recommend waiting 10 minutes before allowing babies or pets outside because the smell is a little overpowering at first. This spray also kills on contact, so if you spot a mosquito you can spray it from a few feet away and literally see it drop dead out of the sky. No more chasing and clapping!

Organic essential oils: I’m clearly a big fan of essential oils, and utilize them in as many ways as possible around our home. I have a tray full of different oils from Young Living, a high quality brand that I find superior to any oils they sell at Whole foods. A few drops of organic lavender mixed with your daily moisturizer can aid in bite prevention. If you don’t like to wear essential oils, you can buy patio candles that are infused with them. You can even make your own by filling a mason jar or short vase with water and then adding oils of citronella, lavender, eucalyptus, a slice of lemon, and a floating candle on top.

Lastly, a potted plant from your local nursery that contains lemongrass, marigold, lavender, citronella, and lemon-thyme can work wonders around your sitting area. Simply brush up on the leaves to release the fragrance of the oils into the air.

Hope you all are enjoying your summer and can stay mosquito bite free with these natural, baby-safe solutions.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
