Now that the holidays are over, I think its time to recommit some focus on being present. I’ve already noticed a shift in my thought processes in these post holiday days.. Although I’m the biggest fan of Christmas (even more so as a mom), there’s such a buildup and then it’s over just like any other day. Another whirlwind holiday season come and gone… so why do we let it stress us out? How do we manage to get everything done in a manner that keeps us connected to our true selves. How do we stay present and grounded amidst stress, not just during Christmas, but during the rest of the year too?
New commitments and obligations are always just around the corner. Life is busy, and as a new mom, I’m realizing that it only gets busier and more demanding, with only a few hours a day to get anything done beyond taking care of the little one. Well, I’m granting myself a little grace in 2016 and invite you to do the same. To wake up in the morning (or in the middle of the night if you’re also dealing with a teething baby), and take a moment to just breathe. To realize that we are alive another day and that being alive is such a gift in itself. We are exactly where we are meant to be, and if we don’t soak up each moment, it will all zoom by just like the holidays did.
So while everyone is motivating themselves to achieve their new years resolutions, my goal is to not overload the new calendar but to live day by day, in the present moment. Easier said than done, but I believe that if we don’t overwhelm ourselves with multitasking, we can actually achieve more over time and do it whole-heartedly with purpose.
Happy New Year everyone, I think it’s going to be the best one yet!
