Up until her delivery, I practiced yoga with my friend Nasiba in her beautiful home. After our session we’d sit down for an afternoon snack, and I was always impressed with whatever well-balanced nutriment she would whip up for us.. When we parted ways, I left feeling clear-headed and energized.
I realized that the combination of my oxygenating flow session plus her hydrating snack equaled the perfect mid-afternoon pick me up.
Here are a few pics of what she has made for us:
Matcha green tea from Japan, organic goat milk yogurt with vanilla essence, raspberries and flax seeds; sliced watermelon, almonds previously soaked in water to remove skins
Udi’s gluten free toast with mashed avocado, thinly sliced heirloom tomatoes and cucumbers, topped with cilantro; Matcha Green Tea
Spritzing the tomatoes with olive oil and a dash of sea salt
Kombucha with sliced watermelon, fig, and peach
Kombucha with soaked almonds (health benefits below)
By soaking raw almonds in water, the almond sheds it brown skin which has tannic acid (or tannins) and an enzyme inhibitor. By removing this inhibitor, the enzymes are released, thus making it easier for your body to absorb more nutrients. By removing the tannins, which bind to and interfere with the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, and cellulose, it’s easier for the body to properly digest the almond.
- Put raw almonds in a glass bowl
- Add 4 cups of purified water per 1 cup of almonds
- Add 1 tspn of sea salt per 1 cup of almonds
- Soak overnight
- Drain, then dry
- Store in jars in the refrigerator; they should last up to a week
Hope Nasiba’s snacks have inspired you!
