What do fashion designers Stella McCartney and Susie Straubmueller have in common? Seeing that one is a vegan designer with a strict no leather/animal philosophy and the latter a handbag designer of exotic skins, it may be hard to guess. Well, besides both being two of my favorite designers, they are also both supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. For the entire month of October, they are donating a portion of their proceeds to the cause.
Having lost her mother from breast cancer, Stella McCartney has designed her Gemma Relaxing range in neon pink as part of her autumn/winter 14 lingerie collection. She states:
“I wanted to remind women that when they wear this set, the first thing they put on in the morning, to keep on top of their health and visit their doctor regularly. I wanted it to be the initial starting point of awareness of this terrible illness. Not only does the set serve as a healthy reminder, but it looks great, fits incredibly well, and is comfortable and stylish.”
Ten percent of the profits from the worldwide sales of this range will go to the Linda McCartney Centre in Liverpool, UK to help fund a new mammography suite.
Dallas handbag designer Susie Straubmueller, having witnessed her sister’s recent battle with the disease firsthand, has also pushed the cause to the forefront of her efforts. Ten percent of all sales of Susie Straubmueller handbags this month will go to breast cancer research. Currently, she’s also coordinating an event to be held at the Goss Michael Foundation in the spring to raise funds. I’m in love with her Mi Amore clutch (shown) as well as her Linea clutch in burgundy.. both will be showcased at my launch party this evening at the Joule.
It’s wonderful to see designers with such different philosophies share the same color.
