Summer is here and it’s starting to really feel like it. I’ve simplified my makeup routine for lighter skincare/beauty products, most of which are from Blue Mercury in Highland Park village. They are having a sale this weekend that I will definitely be taking advantage of online…
I’ve always been a fan of no-fuss, 5 minutes out the door, kind of products. I wrote about it a while back when I discovered a tinted moisturizer called Revision that has everything all in one (high spf, light coverage, anti-aging peptides, etc.) but after interviewing Marla Beck, founder of BlueMercury, (read it here) and trying her Lune and Aster CC cream back when I was pregnant, I haven’t been able to find anything better. It has it all, broad spectrum spf 50, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and it covers great and makes your skin glow! This is one of those products that if asked the question “if you were stranded on a deserted island and could only take one beauty product with you…” I would say this CC cream. Mainly because if I were on an island I would want major sun protection but also because it doubles as a foundation and evens out my complexion.
I’m a stickler for sunblock. I won’t step foot outside without it. If I’m going to be out walking or playing tennis, I’ll double up by applying Darphin’s amazingly lightweight Intral Environmental Lightweight Shield under my aforementioned CC cream. It absorbs pretty quickly and has zinc oxide, one of the sunscreens not listed in the CC cream (why not have it all). If I’m having a good skin day where my complexion is clear or if I’m post facial/procedure and wanting zero makeup, this is perfect for that.
For eyes, I’m currently loving Renee Rouleau’s Vitamin C Eye Brightener (much needed!) as well as Darphin’s Eye Contour Cream which helps keep product from cracking under your eyes. I use both sparingly every morning before I apply the most significant step of all of my morning routine, my Instant Eye Lift by Trish McEvoy. This under-eye concealer covers darkness on even my most sleep deprived mornings. I don’t leave the house without it or without my eyebrows shaded and shaped by Dior’s brow kit. It frames the eyes without having to put eye makeup on.
To finish, Smith and Cult‘s lip glosses make the top of my list, now surpassing both Chanel and Lune and Aster. I love this sheer coral pink shade for summer called “Her Name Bubbles” as well as a more natural clear shade called “Sweet Suite” for the perfect pouty summer lip.
There you have it, the most basic yet most necessary beauty items I swear by.
Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to take advantage of BlueMercury’s sale (10% off $100, 15% off $175, and 20% off of $250) through Monday June 12th!
